POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
The School of Public Affairs seeks applicants for an Assistant
Professor (tenure track) with research interests in public management
and/or budgeting and financial management. The successful candidate
will have an active research agenda, be able to teach core and
elective classes, based on areas of expertise, in the MPA, and be
interested in working in an interdisciplinary environment. Service to
the school, to the college and to the broader community is also
essential.
Setting:
The School of Public Affairs of Baruch College, a flagship institution
of the CUNY system, specializes in teaching, research, and service in
the areas of local and state government, nonprofit management, policy
analysis and evaluation, health care policy and educational
administration. The School offers graduate, undergraduate and
executive degree programs. The faculty carries out research,
professional service, and formal education related to the challenges
that a pluralistic society faces in formulating public policies and
managing resources in the public and nonprofit sectors. The School
operates nationally recognized research centers, including The Center
for Innovation and Leadership in Government (CILG); the Center for
Equality, Pluralism and Policy (CEPP); and the newly created Center
for Nonprofit Strategy and Management (CNSM). In addition, three units
focus our efforts on population studies: The Baruch Survey Research
Unit; the New York Census Research Data Center (NYCRDC) and the CUNY
Institute for Demographic Research (CIDR). The student body is
diverse. The graduate program largely serves active professionals.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A Ph.D. Degree or equivalent doctoral level degree is required. The
successful candidate should have an earned doctorate in a related
field of study. Candidates must demonstrate excellence or high promise
for excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching, an active
agenda of applied research, a record of scholarly publication
commensurate with the academic rank applied for, and an ability to
interact productively across disciplinary boundaries. Practical
experience in public administration is desirable.
