Glendon College of York University, invites applications for a tenure
stream appointment in Refugee and Humanitarian Studies at the
Assistant Professor level to begin July 1, 2008. The successful
candidate would be expected to contribute to the work of the Centre
for Refugee Studies, York University.

Glendon College is the bilingual (English-French) liberal arts
Faculty of York University. It offers a variety of programs in the
humanities and social sciences. Enrollment is about 2500 students on
a scenic campus in the heart of the cosmopolitan city of Toronto.
Glendon is committed to high-quality teaching in the liberal arts
tradition and offers a unique undergraduate and graduate academic
experience for students within one of Canada's largest universities.

The Centre for Refugee Studies (CRS) is an organized research unit of
York University. Founded in 1988, CRS is successor to the Refugee
Documentation Project created in 1981 for the conservation and
analysis of research documents and data collected by Operation
Lifeline during the Indochinese Boat People crisis. It is a hub for
researchers, students, service providers and policy makers concerned
with refugee and forced migration issues with ties to researchers and
research centres around the world. The work of the Centre is
supported by skilled staff and a committed membership of York
faculty, graduate students, research associates and visiting
scholars. CRS fosters interdisciplinary and collaborative research in
all of its undertakings. The Centre's efforts are focused in areas
related to a comprehensive research program expanding from
theoretical to institutional research on several wide-ranging and
interconnected areas of study.

Candidates should be dynamic scholars with extensive experience
working on policy related issues with Canadian and foreign
governments in the fields of forced migration/refugee issues and
humanitarianism. The appointment is not limited by discipline and the
successful candidate will be offered a position within the most
appropriate department. Appropriate disciplines include political
science, sociology, interdisciplinary social sciences with an
emphasis on forced migration, refugee and humanitarian studies.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses, in English and French, to supervise graduate
students and to conduct research. In addition, the successful
candidate will be expected to develop and lead a refugee policy
network of academics, policy makers and practitioners in the Centre
for Refugee Studies. The successful candidate must be suitable for
prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and to the
Glendon School of Public Affairs. All positions at York University
are subject to budgetary approval.

Applications will be considered from candidates with a completed PhD,
a track record of external funding, and a substantial number of
scholarly publications in the fields of refugee studies and
humanitarianism. Applicants must be fully fluent in both English and
French. An application must include a letter of application, a
curriculum vitae, a summary of teaching and research interests and
experience, one or two samples of scholarly writing, three academic
reference letters, at least one of which should address teaching.
