"Qualitative Analysis of Visual Data"
Workshop on Visual Methods
Berlin, September 17-20th, 2007
As part of the ESF programme "EUROQUAL" (Qualitative Research in Europe) the workshop on "Qualitative Analysis of Visual Data" is devoted to the Qualitative Methods of Visual Analysis on the Social Sciences. It aims particularly at developing and sustaining excellence of research in this field within Europe. The topics of the Workshop will encompass particularly
- Photo-Analysis
- Video-analysis
- General questions of visual analysis.
There will be a number of renowned scholars of visual studies present at the workshop, such as Marcus Banks, Ralf Bohnsack, Charles Goodwin, John Grady, Christian Heath, Doug Harper, Jerzy Kazmarek, Lorenza Mondada, Anssi Peräklyä, Sarah Pink, Gillian Rose, Hans-Georg Soeffner, Tanya Stivers. In addition, we invite speakers and participants:
The call for paper addresses
European scholars in the Social Sciences who work on qualitative visual data and who are interested in questions of method. Travel and accommodation will be covered by the organisers.
The call for participation addresses
students, particularly on the PhD/ Dr. level working with visual data and interested in particpating at the Workshop and at a one day training session on September 20th in two fields of video analysis (by Ch. Goodwin and Ch. Heath) and photo analysis (D. Harper, H.-G. Soeffner). Travel and accommodation will be covered by the organisers.

Please note that the number of participants in both categories is restricted; financial support only holds for researchers from countries participating in this ESF-program (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK)
