Dear colleagues,

This is a preliminary announcement for the 1st Annual Simon Academy in
June 2007, organized by the Herbert Simon Institute at the University of
Manchester.

This (first in a series of annual academy sessions) will run from 18th
to 22nd of June 2007 at Manchester Business School. The event is themed
into five day-long events covering: (1) Beyond New Public Management;
(2) Governance, Ethics and Accountability; (3) Leadership; (4)
Performance; and (5) Partnerships.

The format will include plenary speeches and intensive workshops and
break-out sessions, with plenty of time for discussion and networking.
There will also be a couple of very high profile evening lectures from
very prominent individuals - watch this space!

Speakers will include senior academics and practitioners from
Manchester, the UK and internationally. They already include Prof.
Christopher Pollitt (Leuven), Nick Manning (OECD), and Profs Peter John,
Kieran Walshe, and myself from Manchester. More details will follow
soon, but we expect to have around 30 speakers during the week.

We hope some of you will be able to join us at what promises to be an
inaugural event for a highly prestigious international gathering, worthy
to honour the contribution that the late Herbert A. Simon made to the
advancement of human science and public action.

The Academy has been designed to allow both full week-long participation
and individual day attendance. Booking details will be available on our
website when it launches in a few weeks time, but we thought some
colleagues might want to pencil in the dates now.

Best wishes
