The Department of Political Science invites applications for a
tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August
1, 2007. An earned doctorate in Political Science or Public
Administration is required. Primary teaching responsibility will be in a
NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration Program. All areas
within public administration will be considered, but preference will be
given to candidates who can teach quantitative methods for public
administration and/or budgeting/financial management. The position has
secondary teaching responsibility in the undergraduate Political Science
Program, including teaching American Government and/or Introduction to
Political Science. Professional activities, student advising, and

*New Appointment in Public Administration*
The Graduate Program in Public Administration (GPPA) in the College of
Urban Planning and Public Affairs (CUPPA), University of Illinois at
Chicago (UIC) (http://www.uic.edu/cuppa/pa) plans to hire a new
tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant level beginning in August 2007.
The position is part of a multi-year expansion of the CUPPA, based on
our new 2010 Strategic Plan (http://www.uic.edu/cuppa/ cuppa2010plan.pdf).
A strong commitment to an active research program, to excellent teaching
at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and to public service is
expected. Candidates with research and teaching interests in non-profit
management are especially sought. Preference will also be given to
candidates who can contribute to one or more of the four core
competencies of the program: financial management (including public
finance); information technology/science and technology policy; public
management (including organization theory); and survey research methods.
The public administration program offers two graduate degrees: the
Master in Public Administration (MPA), which is fully accredited by the
National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration,
and the Ph.D. Beginning fall 2007, the Public Administration program
will also co-direct an undergraduate degree program (B.A. in Urban and
Public Affairs) with CUPPA's Urban Planning and Policy program.
Candidates must have an earned PhD or attained ABD status in public
administration, political science, public policy, economics, or a
related field. Successful candidates will be required to teach four
courses over two semesters. Underrepresented faculty are particularly
encouraged to apply.

Chicago area. The College of Urban Planning and Public Affairs was

The Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs of the University of Minnesota
seeks applications to fill a tenure-track or tenured faculty position at
the senior Assistant or Associate level in public and nonprofit
management. Preference will be given to a candidate at the tenure-track
Assistant Professor level. The successful candidate must have strong and
demonstrated teaching and research interests and experience centrally
focused in management, and particularly in budgeting and financial
management. Candidates must be able to teach in the Institute's core
curricula, provide leadership to the Humphrey Institute's public and
nonprofit management program, demonstrate a willingness to help prepare
students for careers in public and nonprofit management, and function as
a team player in a multi- and inter-disciplinary college.
A Ph.D. or equivalent foreign doctoral degree is required in public or
nonprofit management, public administration, economics, political
science, business management, leadership, or related field with a focus
on public and/or nonprofit management. Professional experience in public
or nonprofit management is highly desirable. We are particularly
interested in candidates with a strong interest in public policy and
management issues whose approach to teaching and research is innovative

significant new fellowship program providing support for young scholars
to complete their dissertation and, later, to advance their research
after being awarded the Ph.D. The *Andrew W. Mellon Foundation/ACLS
Early Career Fellowship Program* will award fellowships in two
categories: *Dissertation Completion Fellowships* and *Fellowships for
Recent Doctoral Recipients*. A grant from The Andrew W. Mellon
Foundation supports this program.
*Dissertation Completion Fellowships*
* Stipend: $25,000, plus funds for research costs of up to $3,000
and for university fees of up to $5,000.
* Tenure: one year beginning summer 2007.

The *Mellon/ACLS Dissertation Completion Fellowships *are to assist

of the Ph.D. Applicants must be prepared to complete their dissertations

beginning between June and September 2007 for the 2007-2008 academic
year. The Fellowship tenure may be carried out in residence at the
Fellow's home institution, abroad, or at another appropriate site for
the research. The Fellowships include funds for university fees and
research support (together with stipend the award may total up to
$33,000) but may not be held concurrently with any other major
fellowship or grant.

* A Ph.D. candidate in a humanities or social science department in

stipulation that, in the event of an award, the university will
not charge the student tuition or fees beyond a limit of $5,000
