ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / FULL PROFESSOR AND DEPARTMENT CHAIR

We invite applications for the position of associate or full professor and department chair in the Department of Planning, Policy, and Design. The faculty position will be a tenured, academic senate appointment at the level of associate or full professor. The chair position rotates, with typical terms of service being three to five years.  We seek an intellectual leader, a bridge-builder, a scholar, and a qualified administrator who can leverage the substantial accomplishments and intellectual resources in the department.
 

About the Planning, Policy, and Design (PPD) Department

 
The PPD Department was originally constituted as the Department of Urban and Regional Planning in 1993.  In 2003, the department changed its name to Planning, Policy, and Design, in recognition of the combination of faculty expertise in the department.  The PPD department is positioned to create leading scholarship at the intersection of urban planning, studies of the built environment, and public policy. The department's 19 faculty members are world-class scholars with interests and publication records in a variety of specialties in the fields of planning, policy, and design.

 

The PPD Department offers a Master's in Urban and Regional Planning, with 75 students currently enrolled, and a Ph.D. degree, with 35 students currently enrolled.  Efforts to develop a Master's in Public Policy and an undergraduate major in urban studies are underway.

*	Distinguished scholarship related to planning, policy, and/or design with a research record that supports an appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level at the University of California, Irvine 
 
*	A commitment to bridge-building across planning, policy, and design
 
*	A commitment to collaborative, inclusive leadership
 
*	Administrative experience or demonstrated capability for academic leadership and administration
 
*	Ability to work cooperatively with stakeholders, within and outside of the department, to nurture existing degree programs and to develop proposed programs. 
 
*	Also desirable is an ability to build links from the PPD Department to community constituents, including local planning and policy professionals, alumni, and the professional and practice communities.
