Stars make bad filmmakers

It is, perhaps, the urge to make more money that prompts actors to turn
producers. For, while an actor only gets his fee (it's a different matter
that the fee could be huge), the producer reaps the benefits of a hit film
and could end up making profits of crores of rupees. But that is possible
only if a film turns out to be a hit. As most stars would've realised,
they've more often burned their fingers in production than earned from it.
Another factor that prompts artistes to don the mantle of a producer or
director is the thrill of being in command. As an actor, you've got to take
orders. As a director, you give orders. As a producer, you are the person
completely in command of the film. At least, that's the way it is supposed
to be. But as most producers (who are not stars) would vouch, it is still
the stars who call the shots, not the producers or the directors. But the
stars may never be realising this - not even after turning
producers/directors. Because they are stars first, everything else
thereafter.
