The economics of filmmaking has changed as well. Producers are shying from
huge multi-million ventures to minimize their risk exposure. The
corporatisation of the film industry has brought in financial wisdom.
Several big corporate groups have joined the production fray, such as the AV
Birla Group, Zee Telefilms and Pritish Nandy Communications. These
production houses work with oil-slick professionalism and strive to get each
frame correct. There is more planning and less ad-hocism. They know where
the real money lies. A film pundit explains by saying, "The Hindi filmmakers
have completely forgotten the hoi polloi. They are only looking at three
ways to make money: the niche class that goes to multiplexes; the satellite
television through which they can make money and the overseas audience."
