In the light of the gradual step-up in foreign investment proposals in the
news and current affairs category as well as Indian editions with 'news'
content, the government is planning to reconsider the definition of 'news'.
Inter-ministerial consultations have been called to take a call on whether
Indian editions of news products with "dated" content, global content with
analysis of local relevance and speciality journals with pre-published news
snippets can be allowed and, if so, what fresh criteria needs to be spelt
out.
