Two years ago around this time, television news channels made big-time news
all over the world. The 9/11 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center
(WTC) was yet another turning point for TV news, when images of the towers
crumbling down were beamed into millions of living rooms. Along with news
channels across the world, TRPs(television rating points) of those in India
also rose. Ever since then, several news channels have been launched in the
country and are competing furiously for eyeballs. To appear cutting edge,
most of them are leveraging new technology like never before.

A recent conference—Newsrooms Tech India 2003—showcased some of the latest
technologies being used all over the world in the area of news, which is all
about speed and accuracy. Besides international companies, even media houses
including Zee and Sahara had lots to talk about how new technology
influences news television.
