In the age of online music and MP3 downloads, radio, the mass media of 
yesteryears is all set to hit back, with a number of private FM channels 
wooing the listeners with their sizzling music and local content. From 
Bangalore to Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Indore and Delhi, around 20 
private radio channels have sprung up, and are offering music-based 
entertainment programming 24 hours a day live. Around a decade back, 
there were not many TV channels, no internet, mobiles or SMS. Radio 
ruled the media world. But focus on other media dwarfed radio. The 
government took a long time to deregulate airwaves. But the Indian 
entertainment scenario is on a fast track and growing by over eight per 
cent a year.
