[icernet] Indian Express journalist bags prestigious IFJ award

   Indian Express journalist Muzamil Jaleel was awarded the prestigious 
International Federation of Journalists' (IFJ) 'Journalism for 
Tolerance' prize on Friday for South Asia. Jaleel, Srinagar Bureau Chief 
of the paper, was awarded a cheque of Rs. 75,000 (euro 1500) in 
recognition of his sensitive and sophisticated portrayal of basic 
traditional values of humanism and synthesis in Kashmir society, the IFJ 
said. The award is given for promoting tolerance, combating racism and 
discrimination and contributing to understanding of cultural, religious 
and ethnic differences. Former journalist of Dainik Lokmat (Hindi), 
Manimala and former Special Correspondent of Indian Express, Sukhmani 
Singh were also presented ceritificates of honour for their outstanding 
contribution to journalism during 2002.
