[icernet] Channel War: Asianet Picks Up Indiavision's News Gauntlet

  With Indiavision promotors pegging its 24-hour news channels launch 
on July 15, Keralas first private channel Asianet will relaunch the 
Asianet Global channel as a 24-hour news channel on May 1.

Global has always been news-oriented,
 Asianets managing director K 
Madhavan told a press conference, here, highlighting its first mover 
advantage in the news segment. From the News Hour modelled on erstwhile 
Star TV programme to its unedited press conferences/interviews programme 
Murichumattathe, Asianet Global had been sharpening its current affairs 
content. As of now, there are six Malayalam channels - Doordarshan 
Trivandrum, Asianet with its sister Asianet Global channel, Surya TV, 
Kairali TV, Jeevan TV and MET (Middle East Television). Asianet and 
Indiavision are now the only channels having independent teleport 
facilities.
