The government has made it clear that it is necessary for all television 
commercials to adhere to the advertising code to escape action by the 
concerned authorities. Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, 
information and broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said it was 
equally obligatory for the channels to keep the ambit of the code in 
mind before telecasting a commercial. He said that offending ads were 
taken note of either by the ministry officials or the inter-ministerial 
committee set up under Section 20 of the Cable Television Networks 
(Regulation) Act. Complaints received from viewers are also acted upon, 
he said in a written reply.
