The former Prime Minister, Inder Kumar Gujral, expressed concern over
the fact that journalism had become a profession where the editor no
longer mattered. ``Editors do not matter any more. It is the proprietor
who has become more important than the editor,'' he rued while
inaugurating a function here to mark the centenary of Indian Opinion, a
weekly newspaper started by Mahatma Gandhi in South Africa. Mr. Gujral
hailed Gandhi as a great communicator. "Journalism practised by him and
other stalwarts no longer exists. Gandhi used every possible medium to
give his message. Even the "Charkha" was an innovative medium used by
him to communicate his ideals and philosophy.''
