Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Ramesh Bias on 
Tuesday said there were no plans to privatise Doordarshan or the All 
India Radio (AIR).  "The two organisations have a social cause attached 
to them and their basic aim is not to make profits but entertain and 
inform," Bais told reporters. Doordarshan is playing an important role 
in upholding the country's tradition and culture and passing them on to 
the younger generation," he pointed out. He informed that the two 
national channels enjoyed the highest TRPs with 92 per cent of the 
television audience watching DD and 65 per cent listening to AIR.
