Broadcasters, film producers, music companies and animation sector
representatives made their budget pitch to the government. The Indian
Broadcasting Foundation (IBF), which is the apex body for the entertainment
industry, along with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation
of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) delegations, presented
the recommendations to the information and broadcasting minister Sushma
Swaraj.
IBF asked the government for a complete waiver of custom duties on import
of content creation, uplinking and downlinking hardware, and broadcasting
software for the next five years. On behalf of the film industry, the CII
and Ficci delegations stressed the need for a fair service tax structure
and abolition of advance tax. Multi-layered service tax has been a
problematic issue for the entertainment industry for long.
