Censor Board chief Anupam Kher, who drew a lot of flak from critics over his
statements supporting the government's moral policing, defends himself
against allegations of prudery, and gives his take on the censorship
controversy. "There is confusion due to newspaper reports, which needs to
be cleared. There is no dictum passed for movies on late night television.
It is not possible to pass such an order. The minister has quoted the Cable
Television Act, 1995, and asked channels to maintain self-censorship. The
letter I have sent to TV channels says that music videos and movie trailers
must get a 'U' certificate before being shown. The intention is not moral
policing at all. "
