Editor & Publisher Online reports that in one regard, news reading patterns on the Web are similar to those in print. Online news sites see a rapid decline in page hits in the late afternoon and get very little readership in the evening. To spark reader interest at night, some sites are making their evening home pages a bit spicier by using more features and entertainment to entice readers. Minnesota Opinion Research Inc. (MORI) and the Online Publishers Association found similar patterns. Other papers are trying to attract a younger crowd at night with more entertainment, shopping and advertising.
