Journalists always believe they have their ear to the ground and can
feel corporate tremors before they happen. In their minds, they have
their eyes, ears, hands and feet, plugged into gaps in the corporate
world - feeling and sensing the news, as it happens, when it happens.
If journos are the publics eye in the sky, corporates too have their
eyes in orbit. Commissioning media evaluation reports, they track every
publication, every journalist and every bit of news that could possibly
bring their name to the publics mind. And reading one of these media
evaluation reports is an eye-opener.
The Tata group, for instance, knows which reporter or publication is
tracking the group, whether their coverage is beneficial, factual or
adverse (B/F/A) and how well the group is playing the centimetre game.
As an example of competition, the report even has a comparative analysis
with Reliance Industries on amount of space in print accorded to the
Tatas during the period, as compared to Reliance. And all thanks to the
specially commissioned media evaluation reports from ORG-MARG.
