When the President of the United States visits India, it is a grand
event and a fawning Indian media has nothing else to report for days
together. But when the Prime Minister of India visits Washington, his
sojourn gets at best a passing mention in the American media, be it
print or electronic. Is that not enough reason for gripe among the
Indian diaspora? The fact that very little of India gets reported in the
US media has been a matter of perennial concern to Indian Americans, now
1.7 million strong. But what rankles the community still more is that
even the little coverage that India gets is anything but flattering.
