This seems like a unique and fair way to judge Indian films — an awards
process that pits the gamut of regional film fare against Hindi films to
reveal the best Indian films and talents of the year.

The Rajkamal Academy of Cinematic Excellence (RACE) National Awards is
an experiment of such nature, on the lines of the Academy of Motion
Pictures that presents the Oscars.

Formerly known as the V Shantaram Awards, started in 1993 on the
blueprint drawn out by the late filmmaker Shantaram, RACE shortlists the
best films in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and ‘other Indian
languages’ (that includes Marathi and Bengali cinema).
