A major conundrum the Indian entertainment industry today faces is
plagiarism. As Indian films and music reach out to larger audiences in
several countries through various media, they are under closer scrutiny.

Besides, plagiarism and piracy are the two sides of the same coin
intellectual property theft. The post-industrial economy is built with
little bricks of human talent and ingenuity. Each unique creative
proposition has a cost attached to it. However, unlike in the case of
more recent knowledge-based industries like information technology or
pharmaceuticals, aesthetics for centuries has been plagued with the
problem of copyright theft. Unauthorised adaptations and inspired
imitations of books, songs and movies have been a rather common
occurrence here.
