In a world in which information, especially in its electronic form, is
becoming a currency and knowledge is turning into an asset, the security
of electronic data transactions is a growing concern. As a matter of
fact, both governments and business communities across the globe are
becoming increasingly aware of the need for regulation and security of
electronic data transactions.

Information channels turning electronic and the advent of the Internet
has worked a revolution and, suddenly, the Internet is both the most
popular and the prime vehicle for exchanging information across the
world. The development has compelled the legal departments of
governments to lay down cyber laws and regulations to prevent fraud and
piracy. Governments are also evolving cyber laws to ensure the privacy
and security of information on the Internet within their geographical
jurisdictions.

Interestingly, the efforts to weave in electronic data processes into
regulatory frameworks have brought the law and technology closer, a rare
combination never seen before. The two radically different subjects,
when mixed, turn complex and difficult to understand, though. While the
legal fraternity needs to be educated about technology concepts, geeks
require help in deciphering legal language.
