Look at Bhuj. The sleepy town in Gujarat is becoming rather popular with
people in the advertising circuit. Bhuj is the backdrop for Coca-Colas
latest advertising campaign for Thums Up, starring cine actor Akshay
Kumar, for the north Indian market and south matinee idol Chiranjeev for
its south Indian campaign. Fast moving consumer goods major Hindustan
Lever Ltds new ad campaign for its Ponds range of toiletries featuring
Sushmita Sen will also sport the Bhuj landscape as a backdrop. Godrej
has also reportedly chosen the town for shooting its new advertising
campaign. Similarly, Dunlop is looking at the rough terrain for its tyre
campaign. The Atlas group is also racing to shoot its new ad series with
macho man Sunny Deol in Bhuj. The yet-under wraps ad campaign by Pepsi
starring Amitabh Bachchan is expected to be shot in Bhuj, too.

What is it about these locations that makes them hot for admen? Is it
purely the locale, the discounts that they are offered there or simply
the whim of the client? There are a number of reasons, say experts, one
of which seems to be the locations featuring in movies.

Explains Tejinder Singh, creative director, Equus Advertising:
Ads
reflect popular culture. So locations that become popular in movies are
also used in ads.
