The National Public Service Broadcasting Day is being celebrated every
year to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's only visit to All India Radio on
12th Nov. 1947 to address refugees from Pakistan, camped in Kurukshetra.
The PSB Awards are given every year to AIR and DD for their best public
service presentation programmes during the year.

All India Radio, Patna's presentation 'Sankalp Jyoti Bapu' and
Doordarshan Kendra Bangalore's 'Janapada Jagtu Bapuhi' have won the
first prize in Gandhi Darshan category whereas All India Raio, Bhopal's
presentation 'Apni Dhoop Apni Chhaon' and Doordarshan Delhi's 'Bin Paani
Sab Soon' bagged the first prize in Lok Seva category of the
broadcasting awards. The Minister of State for I & B Ramesh Bais gave
away the awards on the occasion of National Public Service Broadcasting
Day function.

Congratulating the award winners, Bais said that the best AIR and DD
Kendras are not only winning the awards but also faith, love and
encouragement of their listeners and viewers for their best
presentations. He said that today, when we celebrating the Platinum
Jubilee of Broadcasting in India, there are 209 AIR stations catering
the service to 98 per cent population of the country and the dream of
Gandhi will come true when it serves 100 per cent of the population.
