[icernet] Gates offered $1m towards MLA

Some 3.5 million students and 80,000 schoolteachers would be targeted in 
the programme, which would be spread over three to five years in 
different regions of India.

Gates also offered a further $1 million towards Media Lab Asia, a 
programme the government is developing with the help of universities for 
everyday IT applications aimed at the person in the street, especially 
in farming communities.

The official said that during Tuesday's meeting, Gates had given Mahajan 
a demonstration of Microsoft's latest product, the Tablet personal 
computer.
