Veteran journalist and former head of the department of Journalism and
Mass Communication in the Berhampur University, Prof. Chintamani
Mohapatra passed away following a heart attack at Dhenkanal.

Mohapatra, a visiting Professor to the Indian Institute of Mass
Communication (IIMC) at Dhenkanal, was teaching students this afternoon
when he complained of uneasiness.

Mohapatra, who had authored and translated about 12 books, pioneered the
teaching of Journalism in Orissa by heading the department in Berhampur
University. He also introduced the course in Andhra University.

Born in Tilajodi village in Kalahandi district, Mohapatra started his
career as a journalist and he was the News Editor in the Oriya daily,
The Prajatantra. He was also the president of the Utkal Theosophical
Society and wrote a regular column, Ambrutavani in the Oriya daily Samaya.
